No-Chemical Stove Cleaning
Watch the video HERE
How did I come up with this idea you may ask?
Well, it happened by accident.
One day I was salting boiling water to make pasta and I accidentally spilled a lot of salt outside of the pot and onto my stove top. I was in a hurry so I took a paper towel to gather the salt in one heap so I could throw it out later… and lo and behold, my stove top was clean!
As I continued to repeat the new salt cleaning procedure, week in and week out, I got thinking about the broader benefits of cleaning the stove with salt.
Economic Benefits:
Table salt at $1 per kilo is much cheaper than other popular stainless steel cleaners like Jif Cream Cleaner at $2.50 per 375ml (560g) or M3 Stainless Steel Cleaner and Polish at $7 for 200g.
Salt is also non-abrasive (does not leave scratch marks), sanitises the surface, and requires no rinsing.
Environmental Benefits:
I believe we as a human race and our health are deeply tied to nature, so when I speak of environmental benefits here I firstly mean safeguarding ourselves from harm which will in turn begin to safeguard the broader environment.
Stainless steel cleaners like the ones I mention above work wonders on stainless steel. It is left up to us consumers when and where to use them.
There is a difference between shining my stainless steel fridge door and cleaning my stove. I cook on my stove, therefore for my health and to avoid contaminating food, I believe it’s best to use chemical free products.
This is why salt wins out on an environmental level.
Social Benefits:
Salt cleaning is highly effective and requires very little elbow grease. It delivers a super clean stove for very little effort, so I can go do more fun things faster.
The method I show in the video promotes the concept of re-using rather than throwing away. Aside from an old tooth brush, I sometimes substitute the paper towel with freshly laundered cloth (cut up old clothing).
Salt is a very basic product which is plenty available to all stratum of society.
